Omar Mohamed - Director
Omar worked in the gap year industry promoting responsible travel for six years before starting Work the World in 2005. He has worked overseas for much of his career, spending long periods of time in North America, Europe, Asia and Africa arranging, developing and overseeing work-experience projects in the fields of social welfare, education, health and conservation.
Omar's role at Work the World focuses on the general development of the company including the IT infrastructure.
Faye Stickings - Managing Director
Faye began her Work the World career in 2009 as the Operations Director, streamlining the destination portfolio and internships to ensure we offered outstanding overseas elective experiences for students and professionals. As Managing Director she now oversees all aspects of the company to make sure that this is reflected at every level of our service.
Faye has traveled throughout Africa, Asia and South America and worked in the student travel industry previously, providing healthcare, education, social and conservation projects around the world.
Robert Giddings - Head of Operations
Rob joined the team in 2010 as our Africa Operations Manager, following 4 years living in Japan and Korea, and his love of travel was immediately evident as he threw himself into the programmes. He even learnt Swahili to help him negotiate with Tanzanian staff and hospitals. Keen to tap into the following success of the Tanzania programmes, Rob now oversees all of the different destinations that Work the World offer and is the primary contact for the new program in the Philippines.
Susie Anthony - Operations Manager
Susie joined the Work the World team in 2012 and is Rob's successor in the Tanzania programmes. She is a woman of extremes, spending 2 years in Siberia teaching English in -40 C, then moving to Oman to teach in +40C. Her dedication to the Tanzanian programmes suggests that East Africa is just about the right temperature for her, and although she may be missing the wadi baths and hiking of Russia, she loves the newfound TIA (this is Africa!) vibe. Susie took over the management of the Argentina program in January 2013 and soon found a love of tango and Malbec!
Susie helps students prepare for their placements before they fly out and also makes sure everything runs to plan whilst out there.
Charlotte Kendall - Operations Manager
After graduating with a degree in English, born and bred east Londoner, Charlotte, thought that she was content to start her career. She managed to gain experience in Corporate Social Responsibility and the non-profit sector by working for a charity in east London. Although she coordinated a youth and employability programme designed to offer a social legacy for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, wanderlust soon took a grip. In 2011, Charlotte headed off with VSO to volunteer in Ethiopia for 3 months.
After that life-changing event, Charlotte travelled and volunteered across South America for 6 months, racking up a ridiculous amount of hours spent on buses. As well as experiencing all the treats of the Gringo trail in that time, she also worked in a hostel in Ecuador, volunteered with sea turtles in Uruguay and lived with a slightly crazy Argentinian family. Once that adventure was over, she moved continents and headed to Tanzania. In the rural region of Babati, Charlotte led volunteer construction projects, working with 16-18 year olds to build and restore state schools. She also squeezed in more travel across Tanzania and Ethiopia, before beginning at Work the World.
Now Charlotte overseas three programmes in Nepal, Sri Lanka and Ghana.
Catrina Bassett - Marketing Consultant
Cat joined the Work the World team in 2012 as part of the sales and events team. Her interest and skill in marketing was quickly spotted and she moved into her current role to freshen up Work the World's online media presence.
Cat looks after our facebook, youtube and twitter accounts, as well as many other social forum channels. She is regularly in contact with our overseas teams to make sure we have the most up to date information about life in the Work the World houses.
Before Work the World Cat spent much of her time traveling, spending time in South Africa, Asia and "down under". Returning home from her last trip she decided now was the time to stop in one place and get a career. Lucky Work the World!
Ruth Chapman - Communications Manager
Ruth joined us in 2009 to develop the website and Work the World brand, successfully overhauling and streamlining the look and feel of Work the World. She now manages all marketing and PR material as well as the content and development of both the UK and International websites.
Coming from a background in travel, product marketing and copywriting, Ruth's has backpacked around the world twice - taking in much of America, South America, Asia, Australia and little bit of Africa - and lived overseas. She is an experienced travel-writer and has won several competitions reflecting on her experiences overseas.
Nicole Jones - Office Manager
Every company needs a resident Aussie and as of 2009 Nicole is ours! She took her time getting here, traveling through several other countries before settling in Canada for a while. Eventually though she landed in the UK and she's here to stay.
As well as managing the head office, she looks after all of the companies finances and pre-departure administration.
Martin Samuels - Administrator
Martin stepped in to support us when Nicole went on maternity leave. With a previous career as a semi-professional musician, he had had enough of traveling around the country in a transit van and sleeping on people's floors in a bid to make it big. Moving to the seaside promised a healthy new lifestyle! Since Nicole's return, Martin has established himself as a fountain of information in the office and we realised we couldn't carry on without him!
Martin is responsible for processing new bookings, date changes, ensuring applicants get their documentation to us on time and to warn us when Nicole is coming into the office to get our expenses forms!
Leah Stay - Operations Administrator
Leah joined Work the World in March 2013. Her background lies within the travel industry, more specifically ski, where she spent 5 years organising ski holidays for school groups.
Prior to that Leah's passion for travel led her to spend 5 months living and working in a French ski resort. Leah is responsible for our welcome, pre-departure and feedback calls as well as helping with student queries relating to all aspects of their time overseas.
The assistance before my departure was really great! The ‘my trip’ section of my profile was helpful in reminding me of what I needed to get done before leaving. I was always able to contact someone from head office via email and telephone whenever I had a question. I received a telephone call a few days before my departure that outlined exactly how my arrival was going to be. From being picked up at the airport to our first day in city, every detail was thoroughly explained.
