Dentistry Internships in Sri Lanka
Unlike many of our destinations Sri Lanka offers free dental healthcare, but poor infrastructure and traveling costs often mean that people delay check ups until there is a problem.
Government hospital
In Kandy we partner with one of the largest teaching hospitals in the country. The dentistry department is organised into two busy dental units - one providing routine oral surgeries (including some emergencies and major oral surgeries) and the other concentrating on general dentistry.
The work in which you are likely to be involved here is extremely varied - from extractions, infection management, root canal treatment, wisdom tooth removal, minor oral procedures, cleft lip palate to oral cancer. There is also the chance for some students to assist with minor and extensive major surgeries.
Opportunities to make more of your Internship
Ayurvedic medicine experience
Many Sri Lankans choose to use traditional Ayurvedic medicine as part of their treatment. It is integral to their culture and such is the importance, many will shun modern medicine all together. To give students the best idea of Sri Lankan healthcare, we have developed a unique placement at an Ayurvedic hospital. For one week you will learn, practice and receive treatment whilst living in family-run guest house, offering you insight into a whole different side of Sri Lankan life.
Whilst this is not directly related to your dentistry studies, as an experience and an insight into the delivery of traditional healthcare in Sri Lanka, it would no doubt be an eye-opening experience.

The house was always so clean, my room was very spacious, the views from the balcony were picturesque and sometimes we could even see cute monkeys playing around in the garden!
