Midwifery Internships in Sri Lanka
As the main centre for medicine in the region, women travel for many miles to reach the hospital in Kandy. A lack of antenatal screening and ultrasound often results in babies born with medical problems.
Government hospital
In Kandy we partner with the largest referral teaching hospital in the region. There are large Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neonatal and Antenatal wards a Labour ward averging 25 births per day. Previous students have found themselves actively involved from day one.
Opportunities to make more of your Internship
Ayurvedic medicine experience
Many Sri Lankans choose to use traditional Ayurvedic medicine as part of their treatment. It is integral to their culture and such is the importance, many will shun modern medicine all together. To give students the best idea of Sri Lankan healthcare, we have developed a unique placement at an Ayurvedic hospital. For one week you will learn, practice and receive treatment whilst living in a family-run guest house, offering you insight into a whole different side of Sri Lankan life.
