Work the World is an international educational travel organization that specializes in arranging short-term placements for healthcare students in Africa, Asia and South America. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious candidate to significantly expand our brand presence in North America.

You will be tasked with managing existing university and national association relationships across the region and more importantly establishing new partnerships. An ability to build and develop relationships at all professional levels, specifically within the academic world, will be key.

Initially, you will also be required to learn, drive and develop our existing sales processes for the American market, before then recruiting, training and managing a small team of sales and event consultants. We envision this recruitment process starting almost immediately.

This is an excellent opportunity for an entrepreneurial and independent candidate. Applicants must be flexible, able to work both independently and as an efficient and proactive member of the Global Sales team, whom currently reside in the UK, The Netherlands and Australia.

National and International travel will be required, as appropriate, so it is vital applicants are flexible and love the international and changeable nature of our organization.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Taking the position as a senior member of the Global Sales team and working closely with the UK Head Office to develop sales strategies in line with company objectives
  • Playing a key ‘hands-on’ role in continuing to develop customer relationships and secure bookings - responding to incoming phone and email leads in a professional and creative manner
  • Building relationships with strategic universities, overseeing partnership agreements & sponsorship opportunities. This includes forging excellent relationships with University Lecturers, Heads of Schools and Placement Co-ordinators
  • Recruitment and management of a US sales team ensuring talent is best deployed
  • Directly, then subsequently indirectly once a team is formed, managing the plans in place for external university events and ensuring the hired sales team are optimizing all opportunities
  • Representing the company at relevant industry events where required, ranging from national medical society conventions to university placement evenings
  • Monitoring the sales volume and margin against the targets on a regular basis, and initiating appropriate responses to variances   
  • Establishment and operational management of an US office – including budgets and accounts, team travel requirements and invoicing

Candidate requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Business or Management
  • Minimum 5 years proven business development and sales management experience in a leadership role
  • Energetic, confident, driven and focused with a results orientated mentality
  • Excellent relationship building and presentation skills including the ability to engage with people of all ages and at all academic levels
  • Previous experience working with universities and / or the healthcare industry would be advantageous but not vital.
  • Previous experience working in a remote / regional office would be advantageous
  • Excellent written and communication skills

The position will have elements of both domestic and international travel. Combined with the need to liaise with head office in the UK, the role will require flexibility with regards to hours. In line with the requirements  of any fast growing international organization.
