The Work The World House

The Work the World house plays an enormous role in your overseas experience. You can think of it as your home from home.

You'll live with other healthcare students from around the world, so the houses have a lively, social atmosphere.

Our house in Hue is an oasis of calm, offering a break from the excitement of the city. The garden is beautiful, with a stream, an ancient wishing well, and a swimming pool to cool off in.

You’ll find the house in central Hue — it’s within walking distance of the Imperial City. Cross the nearby bridge over the Perfume River and you’ll find Hue’s best bars, markets, temples, and street food vendors.

Support in the Hospital

Before your internship starts, you’ll go with our team in an informal tour of your placement hospital. This is so you can meet your supervisors and get a feel for the new clinical environment.

The team will pay you regular visits in the hospital throughout your placement. This helps make sure everything is running smoothly.

We’ll tell you about your supervisors before you meet them. Aim to build rapport with them and they’ll reveal what the local system is like from the perspective of a local practitioner.

We’ve got all bases covered, offering you support at every level throughout your clinical internship.

Healthcare Internships in Vietnam

Internships in Hue

Medical Internships

On your medical internship in Vietnam, you'll spend time in a university teaching hospital that delivers exceptional clinical experience. You can gain experience in an impressive number of departments; reproductive endocrinology and infertility, cardiovascular, DSA, oncology, and gastrointestinal endoscopy are all open to you. Seeing how traditional Vietnamese medicine complements contemporary practices will also be a highlight. If you're after a medical internship in Asia, Hue is an excellent option.

Nursing Internships

The range of departments you can spend time in is broad; the ED, psychiatry, oncology, gastrointestinal endoscopy, and the reproductive endocrinology and infertility centre to name a few. The institution we’re partnered with is a university teaching hospital. If you have an interest in seeing how traditional Vietnamese medicine is used alongside some of the more contemporary practises, the Vietnamese traditional medicine department is also an option.

Midwifery Internships

You’ll learn from both qualified midwives and midwifery students in the hospital’s OBG department attending live births, and getting involved in both prenatal and postnatal care. We’re partnered with a large university teaching hospital which allows us to offer an exceptional level of clinical experience. You’ll see how local professionals have adapted techniques and practises to get around the limitations a lack of resources places on the delivery of care.

Physical Therapy Internships

Staff in the rehabilitation department have decades of experience coaching physical therapy students like you. Alongside these professionals, you can help to rehabilitate patients with all manner of conditions. You can also gain uncommon insight into the lasting effects chemical weaponry has on paediatric spina bifida patients, generations after its use in the Vietnam War. This is a unique opportunity to learn how patients are rehabilitated despite a lack of modern equipment.

Paramedicine Internships

When it comes to paramedicine internships abroad, Vietnam offers unique experiences. Traditional medicine is built right into the healthcare system here, so you’ll see how modern practises complement traditional approaches. You’ll also see RTAs, trauma, and unfamiliar diseases in our partner hospital’s ED. A number of patients travel in from Vietnam’s more rural areas, so there’s equal variety in the patient demographic.

Radiology Internships

Our partner institution in Hue is a university teaching hospital, which allows us to create exceptional learning experiences. The hospital isn’t as well funded as you might be used to. Much of the equipment is out of date, and some technologies common in American hospitals are entirely absent. However, local staff work tirelessly to make up for the lack of equipment. Their ultimate aim is to deliver adequate care. Exposure to these challenges will help you develop a level of resourcefulness that few of your peers possess.

Pharmacy Internships

Undertaking a pharmacy internship in our partner hospital will bring to light the ways in which poor funding limits the delivery of care. This resources gap is particularly notable when it comes to pharmacy. Many drugs have a limited supply, while others are entirely unavailable. This has an obvious impact on staff’s ability to treat patients effectively. Observing how traditional Vietnamese medicine is used in conjunction with contemporary practices will be a highlight.

VILLAGE HEALTHCARE WEEK

At the end of your city-based internship, if you undertake this additional week in a rural setting, you’ll see a different side of healthcare in Vietnam. Alongside your official Work the World guide and interpreter, you’ll spend mornings in the local clinic, learning how local staff employ resourcefulness to get around a lack of equipment. We fill your afternoons with cultural activities, fully immersing you in the rural way of life. You’ll learn local traditions through participation, cooking regional specialities, and much more.
