COMPLETE YOUR internship by adding on a ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME eXPERIENCE
Once your main hospital internship has ended, you can spend a week in a village, learning how healthcare is delivered in a rural setting. These add-on experiences are available in most of our destinations, so check below to see the full list.
Village Healthcare Weeks - $750 USD
Add this extra week to the end of your trip and spend time in a village with a rural community in your destination of choice.
We will drive you to the village, where your Work the World guide and interpreter will be waiting.
You’ll experience village life at its most authentic and immerse yourself in local culture.
You will spend your mornings, in a local health outpost, clinic or rural hospital (depending on which destination you’ve chosen). You’ll see the limits of care local healthcare staff can deliver given the lack of resources.
Your guide will show you the region’s best activities and sights each afternoon.
Depending on which destination you choose, you could go island hopping, swim in waterfalls, learn traditional dances, try your hand at milking buffalo, hike to mountain temples and visit village shaman.
This is once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and promises to be the highlight of your trip.
The Village Healthcare Week is in addition to your city-based placement. You can’t do a Village Healthcare Week by itself.

Ayurvedic Health Weeks - $750 USD
At the end of your trip, you can spend an extra week living in a rural village in Sri Lanka.
When you arrive, your Work the World guide will be waiting for you and then take you to your accommodation for the week.
You’ll spend your mornings in the nearby Ayurveda clinic. Ayurveda — or ‘tree medicine’ — is a 5000-year-old healing art passed from generation to generation.
Your will get involved in creating medicines from tree barks and plants found in the surrounding forest. Ayurvedic diagnoses and treatments, and the patients themselves, will prove fascinating.
You’ll spend your afternoons with your Work the World guide, exploring the region’s most interesting and beautiful sights.
Go on a wild elephant safari, tour beautiful local paddy fields, explore jungle river networks by canoe, and cool off with an evening swim in the nearby lake — an amazing way to take in a sunset.
The Ayurveda Experience is in addition to your city-based placement. You can’t do an Ayurveda Experience by itself.
Inquire now to see how you can add the Ayurveda Experience to the end of your placement.
Don't just take our word for it — read stories from fellow students who've already travelled.
