YOU CAN UNDERTAKE AN INTERNSHIP WITH US IF YOU'RE STUDYING:
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
As long as you are enrolled or have been accepted on a professional healthcare degree you are eligible.
You can also travel if you are qualified, but please note that our placements are educational in their nature and designed to give you experience in a low resource hospital setting under the supervision of local qualified professionals.
Please note: Internships start every Sunday, 52 weeks a year, so you can travel whenever you like. Internship durations are a minimum of two weeks, but you can stay for as long as you like.
1. START HERE
If you haven't already, make sure you browse this website. It will help you get a good idea of what you can expect from our overseas internships and where you might want to travel.
SUBMIT AN INQUIRY
Once you've got an idea, submit an inquiry using the form at the bottom of the page. Tell us where, when and why you want to travel as well as your current level of study.
WE'LL GET IN TOUCH
Next, a member of our consultation team will review your inquiry then call you to discuss your eligibility as per the requirements above. They will also answer any questions you may have.
2. APPROVAL AND CONFIRMATION
Once we have confirmed your eligibility, you need to submit your application form and pay your registration fee.
The registration fee is $400 USD. We will reserve your place the second we receive it.
You can spread the rest of the cost by breaking it into instalments of your choosing.
And you can pay whenever you like as long as your balance is clear 90 days before your trip.
3. TRIP PREPARATION
As your trip approaches, you’ll have a series of calls with your dedicated placement coordinator.
Your coordinator will make sure you’re prepared. The idea is for you to feel completely confident before you travel.
You can completely customize your experience, picking exactly which departments you want to rotate through (depending on what you’re studying).
We’ll then plan and build your placement, providing you expert advice on everything from entry visas to malpractice insurance.
MyTrip is your online placement planner. When you log in, you’ll see detailed information about your trip: placement hospitals, accommodation, even who your housemates are.
4. WHEN YOUR ARRIVE
When you land at the local airport, a member of your in-country team will be waiting to meet you.
From there you’ll travel together to your accommodation — the Work the World house.
You’ll meet the rest of the staff, and enjoy a home-cooked welcome dinner with your new housemates. You can than settle into your room for a well-deserved rest.
You'll get a full welcome briefing the following day, and the local team will take you out on your city orientation.
The in-country team are there to support you 24/7 if you need them. If not, you can enjoy independence throughout your trip.
5. YOUR HOSPITAL PLACEMENT
Before your placement starts, you’ll get a full orientation. The team will take you to your placement hospital, introducing you to your supervisors and key department staff.
Monday through Friday, you'll travel with your housemates to your placement hospital each morning.
Our partner hospitals include government, private, teaching and specialist hospitals. And depending on what you’re studying, you can rotate through any department you choose.
Our in-country teams have built long-standing relationships with key hospital staff, so you know you'll get the support you need.
Does your university need you to complete a certain number of hospital hours? No problem. Your supervisors sign off any hours you spend in the hospital.
6. TRAVEL AND ADVENTURE
You’re free in the evenings to explore your host city, and you can spend your weekends on trips further afield.
Trek through the snowy Himalayan mountains, relax on Southeast Asia’s tropical paradise beaches, go on on safari in Africa… you name it.
Thinking about travelling by yourself?
You’ll spend your weekends travelling with new friends you make in the Work the World house.
