Dumaguete and beyond

The lively city of Dumaguete is situated on a typically blissful tropical island. The town is an eclectic mix of Spanish colonial heritage, Filipino festivals, incredible beaches and more. In the city’s busy main areas you’ll find bars, restaurants and cafes for when you’re feeling hungry or are in need of a good night out. A relaxing visit the hot springs also helps after a long day on the wards. When the sun is out (which is more often than not), head down to the local beach to sunbathe, or try your hand at the local water sports. Further afield you can head to Apo Island to see the giant turtles, travel to Bais for some whale shark spotting, or across to Siquijor island to watch the famous witchdoctors work their magic.

Once you’ve landed at the airport our team will be there to greet you and will usher you straight to our private and fully catered accommodation. Our large house is situated in a friendly and affluent neighborhood named after a stream that runs through the area. The garden has an enchanting fishpond and year-round sunsets that can be enjoyed while relaxing outside in the warmth. Our committed ground teams will always be on hand to make sure your stay, both in and outside of the house, is exactly as you expect it to be for the duration of your internship in the Philippines. Your in-house caterer will cook your breakfast, dinner and chef at our famous weekly BBQs, and any special dietary requirements you may have will be carefully considered. Finally, for peace of mind, the house is guarded around the clock by professional trained security, making it the perfect base for our internships in the Philippines.

In addition to your main placement in Dumaguete, a week in the beautiful rural coast town of Bindoy offers a once in a lifetime experience. This is the perfect opportunity to enhance your internship experience and live life with a host family on the coast in a rural town surrounded by mangrove forests. In the mornings you’ll work in a local clinic to learn about healthcare in an even lower resource setting than your city placement. This is certainly the perfect complement for all our Philippines internships. In the afternoons you’ll be immersed in local life, taking part in everything from crab collecting in the mangrove forests to harvesting coconuts with the locals. You’ll also go on an exclusive tour of a protected reef with the local sea wardens, and then enjoy a barbecue on the patio of the guardhouse - a building on stilts in the middle of the sea.
