Weekend One: Kakum National Park and Cape Coast

As the sun sets over Takoradi on Friday, you and your housemates will hop in a minibus or taxi and head off to Kakum National Park — a treetop getaway that will take you back to nature. Picture yourself stepping into a lush forest, where a dense canopy stretches out overhead, teeming with life.

In the morning, climb into the treetops and walk along bridges suspended high in the forest canopy. You’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding greenery, while mischievous monkeys swing from branch to branch, taking an interest in these strange visitors.

As the sun starts to dip below the horizon, settle down in your canopy treehouse to spend the night in nature. Listen to the forest come alive with a symphony of nocturnal animal calls.

Your weekend continues the following morning as you make the short journey to Cape Coast — a town that is, today, full of charm but one that also has a bleak history.

TRAVEL

Cape Coast is home to the remnants of ageing slave forts, poignant reminders of Ghana's past. Walk around these sombre stone buildings and explore the halls that bore witness to the struggles endured by countless people during the transatlantic slave trade.

As you stand in these spaces, you'll get some understanding of the resilience and strength of the Ghanaian people.

Weekend Two: Busua Beach Resort

After an exhilarating first weekend, you might spend the next unwinding in the tranquillity of Busua Beach Resort. Hop on a local bus and enjoy the scenic journey from Takoradi to this coastal paradise.

The stunning coast of Ghana

When you arrive you’ll find a mix of locals and travellers enjoying the beautiful beaches and warm, crystal-clear waters lapping against the shore.

As relaxing as Busua Beach is, as Ghana’s surfing capital it also offers plenty of excitement. Busua has a surf beach vibe, so if you want to grab a board and challenge the waves as they crest offshore, you’re in the right place.

As the sun dips below the horizon, Busua Beach transforms into a hub of activity. You can browse the local craft shops and then grab a bite to eat in one of the laid-back beachside restaurants.
